Data collection tool for research in sleep, light and circadian rhythms. The app connects to the LYS Button wearable light sensor and collects data on human light intake. The data is then directly downloaded from the app or sent to the cloud for remote data collection.

Background

Visible light stimulates the limbic and circadian pathways resulting in measurable neurophysiological and neurobehavioral outcomes. The magnitude of these outcomes can be inferred through light-driven neuroanatomical models using data collected with the LYS Button. Released in 2016, the LYS Button is designed to monitor and track the intensity, spectrum, and pattern of light exposure in a wearable form factor and provide researchers, practitioners, and individuals with the data needed to understand the relationship between received light and observable changes in mood, cognition, and sleep (to name a few). The sensor is connected to a mobile app, therein allowing users to measure and manage their light intake in real time as well as save and upload data for further analysis.

LYS Collect In response to increasing demand, the LYS Collect app was launched in 2019 as a tool for professionals to collect light data from multiple LYS Buttons via a single application. LYS Collect saves data from multiple sensors in a single .csv file format directly onto the smartphone or tablet or onto the LYS online data portal for remote data collection. This allows for greater data security and avoids the hassle of onboarding multiple users across multiple devices.

To ensure a smooth data collection process make sure to keep the following in mind:

• The LYS Buttons should be charged for 2 hours every 7 days
• The phone hosting the LYS Collect app needs to be in a 10 meter range from the Buttons once per day to allow data transfer (with Bluetooth turned on)
• The LYS Buttons should be worn at all times and uncovered.
